China
A nation the size of Europe, with a fifth of the world's population, and home to
the world's earliest, most advanced civilizations, China is one of the world's most
dramatic and fascinating destinations. Sharing borders with Tadjikistan, Mongolia, Russia,
Vietnam, Laos, and Burma, the architecture, landscape, and people of China are a far more
diverse array than often imagined.
China's densely populated river basins and coastline stand in marked contrast to the
rugged mountainous regions which make up a third of the country. Less than a tenth of the
landmass is arable; this environmental fact has played a key role in China's history.
India
India is a country that creates sensory overload with its copious smells of incense,
cacophony of extraordinary sounds, appetizing cuisine and drinks, and visual wealth of
ancient architecture. The colorful and varied costumes, the cornucopia of varied scenery,
and convoluted cosmologies makes this country one of the most intricate and rewarding
dramas unfolding on earth. Home to one sixth of the world's population and the world's
largest democracy, India presents a full and diverse culture, and an intoxicatingly rich
history.
Indonesia
This immense Indonesian archipelago comprises a tremendous range of unique features that
will appeal to all travelers: glorious beaches, verdant rainforests, dynamically varied
cultures, World Heritage archaeological sites, and intriguing architecture and rituals.
Whether you are seeking relaxation, stimulation, natural wonders, or cultural diversity,
Indonesia is sure to include whatever you are looking for. Our programs focus on
particular themes such as wildlife, textiles, and architecture; we have also created
programs that concentrate on specific regions, such as Borneo, Sulawesi, and the eastern
islands of Nusa Tenggara.
Japan
Japan is a fascinating mix of ancient culture and cutting-edge modernity. More and more
people are choosing to venture to this land where kimono-clad women, traditional artisans,
and Buddhist monks are side-by-side with throngs of "salarymen," the newest
world trends, and bustling neon streets. A visit to Japan should allow plenty of time to
explore the sacred landscapes, ancient monuments, and its particular form of urban
culture.
Singapore
The island nation of Singapore offers visitors a plethora of attractions. Singapore houses
a tantalizing range of cultural, natural, and culinary delights just waiting to be
experienced. Blending age-old traditions with chic modernity, this thriving city-state is
in the midst of a vibrant artistic and cultural revitalization. Singapore's name comes
from the Sanskrit term Singa Pura, or Lion City, and its intricate cultural basket is
woven with the fibers of traditional Chinese, Malay and Hindu cultures that have
established themselves on this tiny island.
Thailand
Steeped in millennia of tradition, Thailand is a graceful melding of past and present, old
and new. Its rich history dates back five thousand years and forms the foundation upon
which a unique and proud nation has emerged.
Visit the historic towns of Ayutthaya and Sukhothai. In the north is are the beautiful
moated and walled city of Chiang Mai, and colorful tribal villages. In the far eastern
part of the country is home to the exquisite Khmer complexes. And in modern Bangkok, where
piercing spires of 12th century wats, or Buddhist monasteries, punctuate the neon skyline.
Travel by boat through the khlongs, or canals, that served as the transportation arteries
of Thailand.
